Businesses get help to join Saudi audiovisual revolution

JEDDAH: Saudi businesses involved in audiovisual media have been put in the picture about the latest industry regulations.
The country’s General Authority for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) has been running workshops at Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province chambers of commerce, to introduce business people to the “Audiovisual Media Regulation.”
The seminars have focused on investment opportunities, services available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them access various media sectors, and updates on procedures for obtaining certain licenses, such as the school degree and bank guarantee.
A guide for investors, launched by the GCAM in conjunction with the regulation, explains the steps to securing licenses for local and foreign investors looking to take part in audiovisual media activities.
The GCAM said the regulatory framework offered the chance to create a new competitive environment that would help develop the Kingdom’s economy and boost job opportunities.
The authority aims to promote the sector and develop its infrastructure in such a way as to not only empower national media companies, but also attract direct foreign investment.
The GCAM is also working on developing its strategy on home entertainment provision in the Kingdom.
